What she finds is the betrayal in the story's title: her boyfriend and her best friend together. She reacts with shock, and Ryan scrambles after her, begging her to wait and insisting it is not what it looks like. It is the oldest excuse in the book, and it lands about as well. The episode ends on a single, careless "Oops."
Episode 2 jumps to the aftermath, and the excuses multiply. Ryan keeps pleading with Emma to listen. His defense is that Mia had been drinking and made the first move, so none of it counted. A second voice then asks Emma if she is okay, remarking that she looked upset the night before. The concern turns into a warning: do not make a scene, because no one will take her word over theirs.
