Dana's husband is due home at some point, and by the time he walks in, the whole household understands the situation except Jake.
Day one: a house with no secrets
Episode 1 is Jake's first day at his girlfriend's family home, and he narrates it as a man who has already found out the hard way what a house rule means. The rule is full transparency, and he says he learned what that meant within ten minutes. A woman steps up and introduces herself as Dana, Chloe's stepmom. Jake stumbles through a greeting, and she tells him to relax, because secrets do not survive in this house.
Then she adds that she has already met his girlfriend's boyfriend, meaning him, and the place she says they met is the shower. Chloe tries to cut her off. Jake turns to Chloe and says a warning would have been nice, and the answer is that Dana is a lot. Dana wants to know whether Chloe really left him in the dark. Her last words in the episode are an invitation to come closer, which Jake has no good way to refuse.
Two minutes, two rules
Episode 2 starts with Chloe telling Jake not to panic, which tends to cause panic. She explains the family tradition: it involves her, her boyfriends and Dana. Dana, unbothered, says she is very patient and starts a two-minute count. Jake is told to sit and not move, and Chloe adds that he should try not to stare too hard. The rules come next. Rule one is that hands stay off Dana until she gives the word.
Jake asks whether there is a rule two, and Dana says that if he keeps looking at her like that they skip rule one altogether. He says he has noted it. Chloe tells him not to let her scare him, and Dana says a small scare is the point. Asked if he is nervous, Jake admits he is extremely, and she calls that exactly right. The final stretch turns noisy, with a few voices cutting in, and it ends on her order: "Don't move."
