Under Her Watch: A Lifeguard Teaches Two Free Lessons Before the Tab Opens

He nearly drowns, and the lifeguard who hauls him out volunteers to teach him the job.

The setting is a private beach club over one long summer. Sophie is the lifeguard, confident and a step ahead of the staff. Her new charge is the boss's nephew, a rookie she hauls out of the water and who is hired for the cabanas, and the club wants his season kept professional. Sophie has a different curriculum in mind: private lessons where work and temptation share a towel.

The rescue and the job offer

Episode 1 of this Candy Shorts series starts in the middle of a rescue. A swimmer has gone under, a shout goes up for help, and Sophie pulls him out and coaches his breathing back to normal. Once he is talking again, she teases that men tend to get in over their heads around her. He admits he does not even know her name.

The next scene is the following day, with the boss welcoming the new hire. She introduces him as her husband's nephew and tells the staff to roll out a warm welcome. Sophie is delighted, remarks that she keeps ending up in his orbit and admits she nearly had to give him mouth to mouth. The boss meant to put him with the deck crew, but Sophie claims him first and the boss warns her to keep it professional. He supposes she will teach him the job. The lessons depend on his appetite, she answers, and there is plenty on offer "all summer long."

First lesson: one examiner, no backup

Episode 2 on Candy AI Shorts begins with Sophie and her trainee alone, until a coworker named Brooklyn arrives at shift change. Brooklyn says the secret is safe and hints that she wants a part of it, and Sophie tells her to get in line. Brooklyn leaves with a maybe later.

Then comes the curriculum. Staffers must be certified in water safety, and Sophie signs off on him personally. The drill is CPR and rescue breathing, and she puts him on the floor, where she coaches the rhythm and the technique with a teacher's calm. He asks whether this is really club policy. She answers that she has a real lesson in mind, one she calls a good one, and the episode closes on her pleased at where the drill is heading.

Sophie is the engine of the story: confident, amused and a step ahead of the rookie. He has no name in the dialogue, and he does not learn hers until the boss says it. The boss supplies the rules that Sophie bends, and Brooklyn is a short but useful spark in episode 2.
